What is a sign of effective circulation during BLS?

The presence of a pulse and normal breathing are key indicators of effective circulation during Basic Life Support (BLS). When performing BLS, the ultimate goal is to restore and maintain circulation and ensure that blood is delivering oxygen to tissues throughout the body. A palpable pulse indicates that the heart is beating adequately and blood is being pumped throughout the circulatory system. In addition, normal breathing signifies that the airway is clear and oxygen is reaching the lungs, further indicating that circulation is functioning properly.

Changes in skin color, ability to move limbs, and stable heart rate are not as direct indicators of effective circulation. While these factors can provide some information about a person's condition, they do not offer the same immediate and clear evidence of circulation as the presence of a pulse and normal breathing.
